This mining robot RoboMiner became a "blue collar"

Mining robots are like canaries in coal mines. They can help automate industries such as construction.

Enaex, which provides blasting services for mine operators, recently teamed up with Sri? International, a robotics company, to try to work together to create a robotic miner and call its own automated robotic solution robominer.

The mining industry itself is a dangerous profession, which has long sought to reduce the risks to miners through technology.

In the early 20th century, mine operators began to use sentry tools, the most famous of which is a tool to detect the content of toxic gases such as carbon monoxide. The technology, pioneered by British doctor John Scott Haldane, has now been replaced by electronic detectors that warn miners to evacuate when air quality is no longer adequate for normal breathing.

But the danger remains. Landslides, explosions and heavy equipment pressure are all contributing factors to this risk. Although the statistics are still rough, the mining industry may lose up to 12000 workers every year due to various causes of death worldwide.

The robot can provide an urgent solution to the safety problem.

Sri equipment is more accurately described as a remote-controlled humanoid robot, which can be sent to work in dangerous mine environment by remote control. This enables operators to reach mining areas that pose a high risk to human security.

According to a spokesman in Sri Lanka, it may also allow mining companies to pursue resources that are currently impossible to exploit.

The mining industry has begun to use automation equipment. In Australia, Rio Tinto mining uses 73 self driving trucks. These trucks are the size of a two-story house and don't need to be operated by people in the car.

But many mining tasks require dexterity and the ability to navigate unstructured environments. Sri's solution may change the shortcomings of robots, which may also turn mining robots into canaries in coal mines, which will be used to expand the degree of automation in related industries, such as the construction industry.

There are very few reports about the debut, but I managed to communicate with an SRI representative to fill in some gaps in what I saw and heard.

Robominer consists of an artificial bionic torso, head and arm. The payload on the machine includes sensors that can realize stereo vision, force feedback, scene rendering and positioning. The robot is mounted on a mobile platform with four solid wheels and can handle various terrain situations. It can move like a human in a 5-10kg load range.

This system reminds me of the & lsquo; guardian gt & rsquo; of salco robotics. This is another remote control unit. I recently tried to find an opportunity to report in the next post. The guardian GT robot is designed for humans to run in dangerous environments such as nuclear power plants, but its creators eventually envision it as a light vehicle on a construction site.

More evidence suggests that the next generation of blue collar jobs may involve driving robots.

Robominer initially planned to operate in an open pit, but eventually it will be underground. It's important that robots do dangerous work instead of miners, because underground mines expose workers to a variety of potential environmental risks, including high temperature, low temperature and humid, dusty environments.
